Longleaf Pine for Garden & Gun Magazine

leave a comment »

This fall I have had the pleasure of shooting three feature stories for Garden&Gun, which was just awarded a Minnie for “Top Editorial Team” and “Second Hottest Launch” of 2007. The first, written by Jack Hitt about the magical Long Leaf Pine forests of the South, is out on the newsstands. You can also see some of it here:

Workshop Announcement: Climbing Photography!

leave a comment »

Finally we have put together a beginning climbing photography workshop with the Showcase School in Atlanta. The workshop will be held during on February 23, 2008 during the  USAC/SCS Season Opener (a nationally-sanctioned climbing competition) at the Adrenaline Climbing Gym in Suwanee, GA, about 25min north of Atlanta. The class will go over ropework, rigging, and climbing basics, as well as the specifics of photographing while on a rope, and of shooting the sport of rock climbing. We will also be going over sports lighting techniques for climbing. Then you will get to photograph a real climbing competition.

The limit to this class is 6 people, so sign up now if you are interested!

The website is updated.

I will be posting some popular videos and slideshows of mine on YouTube. So far, my stopmotion animation (from 10,000 still frames) from last year’s Triple Crown Bouldering Series finals at The Stone Fort in Tennssee, and a recent short show of impressions from last week’s Horse Pens 40 competition, the second leg of the 2007 Triple Crown.

You can see them at my YouTube page: http://youtube.com/user/akornphoto

Full-res and uncut versions of these and more will be available at my website (www.akornphoto.com) soon.

Coming up: a recap of today’s “Vintage Motocross” workshop at Aonia Pass in Washington, GA, and the Fall 2007 newsletter is just about done!

Kate and Kenneth

with one comment

I photographed the wedding of Kate Reese and Kenneth McGinnis near Rome, Georgia on August 25. Both are long-time friends, and pro climbers from the Southeast. The reception was like a who’s-who in the Southern climbing scene. It was a blast! You can see photos and a slideshow at my website:
